We like people for their qualities but we love them for their defects. — Hellboy (2004)
Where to begin? Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, I am a driven and passionate individual, with just a bit of a rebellious streak. I was originally trained as a web and graphic designer, and graduated from art school in 2007 with a degree in Visual Communication. It was during this time I was given a dinky little Canon A530 point and shoot for a project, I instantly fell in love with photography.
After graduation — one of six people in my class to make it through the program — I was hired as an eLearning designer for a Department of Defense contractor in Johnstown, PA. After working there for five years (and one divorce later,) in 2012 I moved to the Washington, DC metro area where I still reside today. Currently I still design training and eLearning, working for the Department of Justice.
My love of photography never died in all those years since I was given that original camera. I ran through several more cameras, including bridge cameras like the Samsung WB100 — which I loved, but it was stolen, and I would still love to have it as a backup — and the Nikon L830 (meh.) The event that really sparked my passion for photography was in late 2017, when my uncle upgraded to the Sony A7RIII and he gave me his original Sony A7 along with the 50mm f/1.8 and a mess of old Minolta Rokkor glass. I was hooked, and haven’t looked back.
Since then I have bought a few more lenses, and though the A7 is several years old now, it still works wonderfully for me and I’ll be shooting with it for a long time to come — though, I am keeping my eye on the A7RIII or A7III when the price drops to a more manageable level 😉
Apart from photography, I am a father to an awesome 11 year old son I don’t get to see enough, who loves with his mother in Pittsburgh; I’m engaged to a wonderful woman who puts up with my shenanigans; and I am passionate about camping and hiking, especially primitive/bushcraft camping.
